“When my husband, Tom, and I decided to start Snap Clarington Newspaper it was a risky step for many reasons.  Financially, of course, but more so that we were not long term residents here and worried taking on Clarington as “our” community would be a huge undertaking in order to be accepted by people who have lived here most, if not all, of their lives.  One of our first “stops” was the Clarington Board of Trade.  The friendly staff immediately stopped what they were doing and sat with the nervous entrepreneurs.  The advice we were given and the support started on that day.  It has continued one year later.  We were able to set up part of our business with the merchant services included in a CBOT membership.  We have covered and attended the social functions and met numerous people who have come on board and supported our paper.  … there is also a feeling of “no pressure”.  Tom and I are very busy and can’t always attend the socials, etc.  At no time have we ever been made to feel we aren’t members.  I am constantly advising the new businesses we attend to call and look into joining.”
